1.Dutch sailors 荷兰 水手

荷兰与美国（尤其是纽约）在历史上有着密切的关系，甚至有人较为夸张地说 “ 没有荷兰，就没有美

国 ” 。这种说法不无道理。 17 世纪初叶，英国爆发内战，清教徒迫于皇室打压逃亡荷兰。后来到达美国

的 “ 五月花 ” 号，船上都是从荷兰逃亡的清教徒，正是他们奠定了美国的历史。

荷兰在 17 世纪海洋贸易中扮演主要角色，有 “ 海上马车夫 ” 之称

1613 年，定居美州的荷兰人与英国人交换了苏里南，并重新命名为 “ 纽约市 ” 。之后，英国将交换所得

新荷兰殖民地分割成两部分，分别命名为纽约和新泽西。所以纽约（又称新乡）最早是由荷兰移民建

立的。直到今天，美国和荷兰一直都是传统盟友，在经济和政治上联系密切。

「 flower 」 开花，盛开，绽放； 「 breast 」 指 “any surface or part resembling or likened to the

human breast.” 就像人类的乳房一样（滋润）的部分，（比喻）营养的来源，滋润之源，意即沃

土。
