Hi everyone,

I will have more to write to all of you in the middle of this week after most of the Early Decision notifications have come out, but just a

few quick points that come to my mind, in no particular order:

1) If you are considering Duke for Regular Decision, for greater alumni interview consideration, please submit your application to Duke

by December 20(this includes the supplement.)

2) If you're considering Wellesley, please try to submit your application by January 1 to be considered for Early Evaluation (which will

give you an early forecast of your result in mid-to-late February. This is not binding!)

The deadline to request an interview for people who want to do Early Evaluation is today, 12/15. See the link at

to request one.

Wellesley's Regular Decision deadline is January 15; the interview request deadline for people who want to do Regular Decision

is January 1.

3) A few other remaining liberal arts colleges, like Haverford and Vassar and Smith, still have ways to request an interview. I think for

Haverford, you can request the interview before submitting your application. For Vassar, you request after submitting your application to

Vassar, but before January 6.

3) Ask for all checklists for all schools that interest you. Asking for a checklist does not oblige you to apply. Please take note of schools

that have "received by" deadlines in case you need to physically mail stuff. This means that anything physically mailed to those

schools, would have to be sent out a few days before the deadline. They would include Wake Forest, Michigan, Wellesley, and

Pomona. (There aren't many.)

4) Some of you may be thinking about Early Decision 2. Consider it if you have a clear favorite school at this point. Only a few

universities offer it (namely: Tufts, Brandeis, NYU, Emory, Vanderbilt); you see it more at liberal arts colleges (but not all liberal arts

colleges have it). In most cases, the ED2 deadline is the same as RD, but not always - consult the checklists to be sure.

5) If any of you have questions about sending TOEFL/SAT scores, reach out to my assistant or me at any time.

6) If you have received any new awards or have had new activities in the past few months, you may want to make some

additions/revisions/edits to your activity/awards list in the Common Application; discuss with me. Likewise, make sure that your

Common Application has been updated with new test scores since October.

7) Show me all application PDFs before you actually submit them.

8) Some of you with strong interests in business may want to consider Babson College. It does not rank very high in the U.S. News &

World Report, but it is pretty much a business-focused school:

9) If you were/are deferred from a school to which you applied Early Decision or Early Action, no immediate action is necessary. We

can discuss the plan in January - it consists of sending any updated test scores, updated grades from class, and restating your interest

in the school in a few paragraphs. Again, no need to take action until you finish the rest of your applications.

10) This is a little thing, but if you speak a third language (beyond English and Chinese), consider adding it on page 1 of your Common

Application, in the languages section.
